All search terms we relate to in this article will be shown like this:

search term

You should be able to use that search term in any search engine. But if you want to be sure that it will work we recommend one of the following: Google, Yahoo! search or MSN search.

Find the large, most visited sites

If you do an ordinary search for your interest you'll find the largest most famous sites available. Most of the time you'll be able to find everything you need and much more on those sites. But sometimes they may be a little unpersonal and business oriented. We'll start by showing you how to find those sites and a bit further down we'll show you how you could find the smaller and often more personal sites.

You could start by doing a search for your interest like this:

interest

Change the word interest to your specific interest. For example: fishing. Doing a search like that will provide you with a really large amount of search results and a lot of them probably won't be to any interest to you. For example: if I want to find other person who likes fishing then I'll be disappointed to get a lot of pages selling fishing equipment.

If your interest gets a lot of commercial webpage's in the search results it may be a good thing to use the minus sign. The minus sign can exclude webpage's that contain the word of your choice.

For example if I do a search for fishing and feels that I get too many sites that is about fly fishing I could do a search like this: fishing -fly. That search will find every page that got the word fishing in them and not the word fly.

The minus sign could be useful to remove words like "shop" or "buy". To get search results that doesn't want you to buy stuff.

When you do a search for your interest you should try to search for more than one word. For example, if I want to find sites about ice fishing I should do a search for "ice fishing" instead of fishing.
